A long-anticipated newspaper to support the movement for a separate Telangana state, Namaste Telangana, was launched here on Monday. The publisher, Telangana Publications Pvt Ltd, would also come out with a sister publication in Urdu titled Rahbar-e-Telangana on August 2.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, the force behind the paper as well as the T News television channel, said it would fulfil the need for a paper that would focus on the region. The newspaper is edited by columnist Allam Narayana. It would have an initial print run of 750,000-800,000 copies, with editions in six districts apart from Hyderabad, from where it is published.

According to Narayana, the need for a new daily was created by the ‘misrepresentation’ of the history, culture and aspirations of the Telangana region in the existing publications.

“All the papers put together have a circulation of 1.5 million in Telangana, but none had questioned the cultural destruction and broken promises. From literature to irrigation, all history is the history of coastal Andhra or of the British. Media did not go into the reasons behind issues that affected the region,” he said.
